Top Furniture Retailers Sustain their Commitment to

Responsible Wood Sourcing

Sustainable Furnishings Council and National Wildlife Federation spotlight top-performing companies on the 2025 Wood Furniture Scorecard

High Point, North Carolina – November 13, 2025: The Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) and National Wildlife Federation (NWF) today released the 2025 Wood Furniture Scorecard, reaffirming the Scorecard’s role as a vital accountability tool for the industry. Now in its eighth year, the Scorecard reveals that most retailers’ results remain consistent, top performers continue to lead by example, and at the same time, the industry faces an urgent need to accelerate action against deforestation and strengthen stewardship of forest resources. The Scorecard empowers consumers to make informed choices, rewards steady progress on sourcing targets, and challenges companies to go beyond incremental progress toward transformative change. Companies that prioritize reclaimed and certified wood consistently achieve high scores, demonstrating that verified sourcing and reuse practices are among the most effective ways to reduce deforestation risk and improve sustainability performance.

"The Wood Furniture Scorecard continues to shine a light on retailers who are making responsible sourcing a priority,” said Scarlette Tapp, SFC Executive Director. “Our eighth year demonstrates that consistent commitment to certified and reclaimed wood is the most effective way to reduce deforestation, improve forest management, protect biodiversity, and drive meaningful change in the industry. Top and high scorers show that sustainability is not a one-time achievement but a long-term commitment. In today’s complex global supply chains, maintaining high standards year after year is a true mark of leadership."

“The Scorecard highlights the consistency of the top performers and empowers consumers to make informed choices to purchase furniture from brands committing to wildlife-friendly furniture,” said Nathalie Walker, NWF Associate Vice President, International Tropical Forests & Agriculture.

Key findings from the 2025 Wood Furniture Scorecard include:

  • Certification matters: Forest Stewardship Council® certification is strongly correlated with top scorers. Several top retailers focus on offering FSC® wood furniture. Other forest certification systems are also acknowledged and rewarded albeit with lower weighting than FSC.
  • Reclaimed wood drives performance: Retailers sourcing and promoting reclaimed wood consistently rank among the highest scorers. Notable examples include Kase Customs and re.dwell, whose furniture uses only reclaimed wood.
  • Responsible sourcing and transparency: Implementing a robust sourcing policy, maintaining transparency, and using certified or reclaimed materials are drivers of higher ratings – especially important in a challenging global economy.
  • Ongoing commitment matters: Maintaining high scores year after year demonstrates resilience and leadership. Top scorers like Model No., Sabai, Room & Board, and Williams-Sonoma, Inc. illustrate that sustainability is a continuous effort. For example, Room & Board increased sustainably sourced wood in the last year from 95% to 98% and diverted 400 urban trees from the waste stream—an increase from 300 the previous year.
  • Recognizing emerging leaders: Two newcomers achieved Top Score rankings: MasayaCo., an FSC-Chain of Custody certificate holder based in Nicaragua, and Sonoma Restorations, a California company using only reclaimed wood, while Ethan Allen, 2024’s Most Improved, moved into the High Score category for the first time.
