The Rug Show is a not for profit organization, committed to energizing the wholesale rug industry and providing high quality events that are affordable to its vendors. The Rug Show brings together the leaders in the industry from around the world. Sustainable Materials
We make a conscious effort to manage our materials selection, seeking materials we are confident are sustainable, such as legally harvested forest products, responsibly produced plantation products, and recycled content:

We factor disassembly, recyclability and product reclamation into buying decisions. We offer a product reclamation/product reuse policy:
Return and Reuse
We use recycled or recyclable packing/packaging materials, offer blanket-wrap transportation arrangements for customers and have a carton return/reuse policy:

We ask for verifiable chain of custody documents (i.e. legal logging certifications) before buying products containing wood:

We have decreased our use/acceptance of known toxic chemicals for treatments, binders and finishes, replacing compounds that compromise indoor air quality and are harmful to human health:
Low Environmental Impact Textiles
We are asking our vendors for textiles that have a lower environmental impact, i.e. organic cotton in place of conventionally-grown cotton, as well as seeking other eco-friendly textiles:

In keeping with our commitment to continual improvement, we are planning to take the following actions this year: On reducing energy consumption:

At our events, we will start to look for ways to be more energy efficient - in the seminar rooms and showroom floors. Turning off lights and equipment when the show is over each day. We will start having conversations about recycling on the event floors, if recycling is not in place, to make sure we and the event-goers have peace of mind about recycling responsibly.

We will encourage designers and rug manufacturers to know about the supply chain of products and materials they use and specify, and to ask questions of how its made and what's it made of.

Because we are a show and not a manufacturer, we work predominantly through education and partnership in the rug industry. We create and sponsor panels on sustainable and ethical design and invite leaders across the industry of rugs, home furnishings, and interior design to discuss and present their initiatives at each show. We invite organizations that are working passionately to create a socially responsible rug industry to be front and center on seminars, in workshops and press opportunities.
2019: At our September Rug Show event in NYC, we plan to have an SFC Pavilion featuring SFC Member companies who are exhibiting, and a dedicated marketing strategy for the event, as it begins to diversify and supply more home furnishing options to meet the demands of its attendees.
