We make a conscious effort to manage our materials selection, seeking materials we are confident are sustainable, such as legally harvested forest products, responsibly produced plantation products, and recycled content:

In keeping with our commitment to continual improvement, we are planning to take the following actions this year: On reducing energy consumption:

2017: We have NEW LED bulbs in the office!
2016: We continue to limit energy consumption in our offices by dressing for minimal use of heating & cooling. We make every effort to ensure that our shipments are scheduled and packed as efficiently as possible. We choose electronic communication over long-distance travel whenever we can.
2014: We are continuing in our plan to improve energy efficiency in our offices, insulating the duct system and otherwise preventing heat loss. We are offsetting all travel with TerraPass purchases.

In keeping with our commitment to continual improvement, we are planning to take the following actions this year: On how we will manage our primary material or service to a more sustainable direction:

2016 - In our work with handspun cashmere producers in Afghanistan, we are bringing income to women in remote and disadvantaged areas, many of them heads of household. We choose not to dye the yarn, but rather sell our product in the natural colors of the goats, which preserves the genetic diversity of the herds.
2014: We continue to specify only organic textiles and only certified wood. In our work with artisans in remote areas certified materials are often unavailable, so we usually have to make our own assessment as to the sustainability of the material source. We do so using the SFC Objective Criteria for benchmarking sustainability.

In keeping with our commitment to continual improvement, we are planning to take the following actions this year: On education and promotion of the sustainability cause:

2016: FTM supports and participates in SFC educational programming and also provides sustainability training to our reach outside the home furnishings industry.
2014: FTM is & will continue to be an active supporter of SFC educational programs.
